It was confirmed on Thursday evening that Serie A journeyman, Alessandro Matri has officially moved to Genoa from Milan on an initial loan deal. The striker spent less than 6 months with the Rossoneri, as he was bought on August 30th, 2013 for €11 million from Juventus, and was loaned out in January to Fiorentina.
Genoa will be Matri’s fourth team in less than a year, as he looks to finally find a permanent place to stay. Matri will have every opportunity to shine with Genoa, as the deal comes hot off the heels of Alberto Gilardino’s transfer to Guangzhou Evergrande of the Chinese Super League. The team is looking for a prolific striker up top to fill the void left by Gilardino and are hoping Matri can be that player.
In a total of 30 league appearances between Milan and Fiorentina, Matri only netted 5 goals. His career high was in the 2009-2010 season with Cagliari, when Matri was able to find the back of the net 13 times.
Matri hasn’t hidden his excitement to join “Italy’s oldest club” as he looks for a fresh start. It will be interesting to see how Matri adapts to life at Genoa, and whether he can fill the need there, that he couldn't at Fiorentina.
