Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic was presented to Atletico Madrid fans at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid. Wearing the number 9 jersey, he stood in front of thousands of fans who chanted his name.

Mandzukic is impressed with fans, the city and the coach.  He thanked the club and the fans for welcoming him to the club. Speaking at the press conference during his official presentation, the striker reiterated his gratefulness to the club and the city for the warm welcome.

“Thank you to the President for his welcoming. I’m very happy to be in Atletico de Madrid and very grateful for this welcome. I come from a great club, Bayern Munich, and came to another big club, Atletico de Madrid. I’m very happy to be here, in a club that was the league champion last season. I know the club and the players quite well. I think they’re great players and I’m very happy, specially with the coach- I think we see football the same way.”

The Croatian is in line to replace Diego Costa and it was Simeone's passion and dedication that convinced him to join the club.

"Of course I'm really happy, Cholo (Diego) Simeone will be my new coach. Actually I've signed, so he's my coach already. I appreciate him, I know his footballing history. He's been a great football player, giving everything for his team, the same thing he keeps proving as a coach. He's got a passion for football, he is dedicated to it. In that sense, he and I are very much alike."

In the Atletico Madrid kit he will face his countryman in the derby against Real Madrid.

"I'm going to be very happy and satisfied about the fact that I get to play against my national teammate Luka Modric, that shouldn't be a problem at all. Of course I'll do my best to beat him, as I've always done. ''

Mandzukic admitted that Pep Guardiola’s style of play did not work to his strengths. He was left out of the squad for Bayern’s 2-0 German Cup final win over Borussia Dortmund and when he was asked about Guardiola at the presentation, he did not want to comment.

''Regarding Pep Guardiola, I prefer not to talk about it. I don't want to go back to the past. My world and my present life is now at Atletico Madrid. I just need to train and win."

Mandzukic has won two Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Champions League and two DFB-Pokals with the German club. He scored 25 goals in all competitions last season.
