On Thursday, April 4th, fans of Nacional of Uruguay deployed a gigantic flag in the Copa Libertadores match against Liga MX's, Toluca. At 600 meters (656 yards) long and 50 meters (54 yards) high, the giant cloth with the three colors of the team (red, white & blue) covered the stands of the Uruguayan soccer temple.
On their website, the team said that in total, more than 5,000 fans helped in various ways in the effort of making this dream a reality. The same fans had their names inscribed on the flag, which took a year and a half to be made. The flag includes famous team quotes, along with a picture of the club's stadium and the glories of the club.
The idea of this giant flag had been circulating through the club since 2006 and 7 years later, Nacional was finally able to deliver the promise they had made to their fans. The Uruguayans were able to celebrate their accomplishment with a 4-0 victory over Toluca, knocking the Mexican squad out of the Libertadores.
