Earlier we reported the claims of ESPN correspondent Jorge Ramos, about FIFA approaching U.S. Soccer with the intentions of getting them ready to claim the hosting rights for the 2022 World Cup that is supposed to be held in Qatar.
Jorge Ramos claimed on one of his Twitter accounts that FIFA's final decision to revoke Qatar's hosting duties would come as early as September/October, but New York Times sports correspondent Sam Borden claims that this information is false.
Sunil Gulati, flatly denied FIFA has approached them re: '22 WC. "They haven't asked us and I cannot imagine it happening anytime soon."— Sam Borden (@SamBorden) June 12, 2014
Just spoke to Gulati, who is president of US Soccer and FIFA ExCo member. Could not have been more forceful in saying no approach made.— Sam Borden (@SamBorden) June 12, 2014
While we have the utmost respect towards our journalist colleague, we sure hope he's wrong about this one and that Sunil Gulati is trying to keep things hush-hush for the moment.
