Although it is always important to look towards the future, sometimes it is good to take a step back and see where things have come.

In a week where Major League Soccer and former Los Angeles Galaxy player David Beckham announced their intention to add an expansion franchise, the newest trailer for "Muerte O Gloria", a documentary about the rise of the American soccer fan, was released.

"Muerte O Gloria," which in English means "Death or Glory" is an upcoming documentary directed by Mark Yancey which focuses heavily on the D.C. United supporters group La Barra Brava, which is one of the original supporter's groups in MLS.

The movie focuses on how the group was formed in the early years of Major League Soccer and how D.C. United's success (3 MLS Titles in the leagues first four years) and failures (the ongoing struggle to secure a viable stadium) has shaped supporter's culture not only within the DMV area, but across the football landscape in the United States.

Although clubs like Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers at the time were still in existence, it was groups like La Barra Brava that brought back the supporters culture to American soccer which had been largely vanquished since the North American Soccer League folded in the early 1980's.

The film is set to be released on April the 14th; in the meantime, check out the trailer to the documentary here.
