Barcelona Agree $16.5 M Deal for Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Barcelona have agreed to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach's goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, for a deal that is believed to be in the region of $12.4--16.6 million plus two friendly games.
Due to Victor Valdes' previous announcement that this season will be his last at the Nou Camp, Barcelona have been searching for a new shot stopper. It seems that the 21-year old German international has fit the bill to replace Valdes under the Catalan arch. The deal is believed to extend until the summer of 2019.
Borussia Mönchengladbach was likely forced to cash in on their promising young keeper due to his announcement that he had no intention of signing an extension to his contract until 2015. Which would leave the Borussia side in danger of losing it's player on a Bosman.
Ter Stegen emerged from the Mönchengladbach youth squad and has made well over 100 appearances for the club since breaking into the first team during the 2010-2011 Bundesliga Season, he also has several youth caps in addition to 3 senior appearances for the German national team.
Sources say Barcelona officials will not make the news official until La Liga's Crown has been mathematically decided, or current keeper, Victor Valdes makes his next destination official. Valdes has not given any hints as to what goal he will guard next, but AS Monaco is sounding like the likeliest of destinations.
