Mexican club Monarcas Morelia and the LIGA Bancomer MX have officially announced the signing of Uruguayan international Egidio Arevalo Rios. Arevalo Rios joins the Michoacan side on a six month loan after having played the last season with the Chicago Fire of the MLS on loan from Italian club Palermo.
The Uruguayan defensive midfielder will reinforce the Morelia squad for the 2014 Clausura season of the Liga MX as well as the 2014 edition of the Copa Libertadores, South America’s most important club competition.
This will be Arevalo Rios’ fourth Mexican club after having gone through Monterrey FC in 2007/2008, San Luis in 2009, and Tijuana Xolos in 2011/2012. He has a total of 76 appearances in Mexico’s top flight league with 6,305 total minutes, 6 goals and 2 assists.
Rios went from Tijuana where we had a spectacular tournament helping save the club from relegation, as well as having an impressive Copa America with Uruguay to Palermo in Italy. He then left the Italian club to sign with the MLS side Chicago Fire.
“I come with the mentality of achieving big things” said Arevalo Rios in his presentation. “Morelia is a team that is always in the playoffs fighting for the title, and I’m here to add that experience that I have gained throughout my career.
“I want to be champion. I want to win my first championship in Mexico; and I believe that with Morelia it is possible. There is a good team here.”
