Due to the violence, league officials also decided to take action and close down indefinitely the Estadio Jalisco, home of Atlas. The league is also considering following Chivas’ lead and kicking out ALL supporter groups from every team.

The “No Supporter Group” policy that Chivas has implemented will take into effect this coming Sunday when Club America visits the Omnilife Stadium in another edition of the SuperClasico.

“Following the shameful acts that occurred during the Tapatio (Guadalajara) Derby, Club Deportivo Guadalajara S.A. de C.V. informs that it will investigate with photos, videos, and witnesses who were the responsible ones for the assault on the police officers. We will put our resources to make sure these individuals never go inside a Mexican soccer stadium ever again.

“In addition the club also announces that it has banned all members of organized supporter groups that were credentialed at the start of this season. This will take immediate effect for the upcoming Clasico against Club America,” read an official press release from Chivas of Guadalajara.
