Pumas UNAM host Chivas in first clash between 'Big Four'

Pumas 1-0 Chivas

Pumas UNAM will host Chivas of Guadalajara on Sunday in the first clash between "Big Four" teams of the new Apertura 2014 season of Liga MX.

The match is scheduled for Sunday July 27th at 1:00pm EST / 10:00am PST from the Estadio Ciudad Universitaria (C.U.) in Mexico City. The game will be shown live in the USA on Univision and Univision Deportes Network.

Pumas UNAM will look to string two victories together after putting three goals past Queretaro in route to a 1-3 win over the Gallos Blancos in the opening match of the season. Midfielder Daniel Ludueña picked up where he left off last season with an assist and a GOLAZO for Pumas UNAM in the opening match. The former Santos midfielder was a huge reason why Pumas were able to turn things around and finish in the top three of the league last season after their last place finish a year ago.

Former Leon forward Matias Britos made his Pumas debut last weekend in Queretaro and nearly had the dream start with a goal, but missed a rather easy chance. He'll be looking to take advantage of his first home presentation to net his first goal with his new club.

Chivas of Guadalajara, who as of this season and into the next will have the rare pressure of the relegation percentage, looked like they were heading for an opening day win over Chiapas FC when new summer signing Fernando Arce struck a GOLAZO of his own. But Chivas gave up the lead and allowed the visitors an equalizer and finished the first week with a 1-1 draw.

A win over a"Big Four" rival for Chivas would be the boost of confidence the team needs at the early stage of this new season. Heavily criticized captain Omar Bravo will want to put in a stellar performance not only to help ease some of the pressure off of the team, but off of himself as well.
