On Saturday December 28 the StubHub Center, home of the Los Angeles Galaxy will host the next CONCACAF Champion’s League (CCL) rival for the Galaxy. Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente will face 11-time Mexican league Champions Club America in both team’s one and only preseason friendly prior to the start of the new Clausura 2014 season of the Liga Bancomer MX
The Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS are set to face the Tijuana Xolos in March of 2014 in a home/away series for the quarterfinals of the CCL.
HMC Advertisement, the promotion company who has found huge success putting together the San Diego Clasico - which pits the “local” Tijuana Xolos against some of the most popular club - will now try and duplicate the success in Los Angeles with the LA Clasico.
The San Diego Clasico has always been played in the summer time, and as the name would have you believe; in San Diego, CA. Xolos have faced teams like the MLS’ Chivas USA, Los Angeles Galaxy, and in the past two editions Liga MX’s Club America.
The idea now is that the LA Clasico replicate the same success during the winter offseason.
Both clubs will be debuting managers in the upcoming season of the Mexican league. Club Tijuana has hired young former Venezuelan National Team manager Cesar Farias, while the Mexico City giants have signed former Xolos manager Antonio “Turco” Mohamed.
Mohamed will manage his first match as Club America boss against the team he took to a league championship in December of 2012 and a deep run in the 2013 Copa Libertadores.
“El Turco” has also brought in central defender Pablo Cesar Aguilar to America. Aguilar was one of Mohamed's cornerstones while in Tijuana and both will face their former club in the match.
The LA Clasico between Tijuana Xolos and Club America is scheduled for Saturday December 28, 2013 at 8:00PM (eastern) / 5:00PM (local time) at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA.
