Interim coach Sixto Vizuete made his first call up for the Ecuadorian national team and there were some interesting additions as well as omissions.

The most noticeable absences are the players that were involved in the controversy regarding World Cup bonuses, that reported caused a tremendous rift in the team. Felipe Caicedo as well as Jefferson Montero were not called up to the national team side that will face both Bolivia and Brazil in the United States. There was also the retirement from the national team of Edison Méndez after his participation in the World Cup.

Ecuador's lone shining star in the World Cup, Enner Valencia is on the list as well as one of the more promising players on the attacking end in Junior Sornoza. Another player that is going through a tremendous run of form is Banfield's Juan Cazares. The former River Plate youth player scored one of the best goals of the round against reigning Copa Libertadores champs San Lorenzo on Sunday. Cazares is an important cog to Banfield under Matías Almeyda as they returned to the top flight in that country this season.

There was some players like Emelec's Ángel Mena that really were called up and received a great deal of criticism. Many in the local media considered that Mena was not at international caliber and was looked at as one of the big mistakes of Sixto Vizuete's callup as he looks to possibly become the next full-time coach of La Tri when the next FEF congress takes place in the coming weeks.

Real Salt Lake's Joao Plata finally gets his long-awaited callup to the national team. Plata for the past few became one of the more consistent players for the Claret and Cobalt since his arrival from Toronto FC and Liga de Quito.
