Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole announced Sunday his retirement from the England National team following the news that he had been left out of Roy Hodgson's World Cup Squad set to go to Brazil.
Using his official Twitter account, Cole informed the world of his decision to end his international career.
I got the call from Roy and agree England team should be about the young players. I think it best I retire from England team now. ????— Ashley Cole (@TheRealAC3) May 11, 2014
The three-time World Cup veteran puts an end to his England career after Hodgson's personally called Cole to let him know he would not be named in Monday's list; accumulating a total of 107 caps with England’s first team since his debut in 2001.
The 33-year old left back was already at a career crossroad before Roy Hogdson’s call; with speculation over his future at Chelsea in doubt after a season in which Jose Mourinho saw the former Arsenal and Crystal Palace fullback as surplus to requirements.
