Matthias Sammer, Bayern's director of football, has confirmed that a deal has been struck for Mario Mandzukic to join Atletico de Madrid.
"There is a verbal agreement between Bayern, Atletico and Mario", Sammer told journalists on the day that the Bavarian club's players not involved in the World Cup reported for pre-season duty.
"There's nothing signed yet but I think we can trust each other's words. We want to thank Mario Mandzukic for his performances at Bayern and wish him all the best for the future", he added.
Despite being Bayern's top scorer in each of the past two seasons, Mandzukic had fallen out of favor under Pep Guardiola, who even left the Croat out of the squad for the German Cup final, last year's curtain-closer.
What's more, the arrival of Robert Lewandowski meant the former Wolfsburg and Dinamo Zagreb man faced a real fight for first-team football in Bavaria.
