Portuguese defender Fabio Coentrao will miss the rest of the World Cup after coming down with an grade II muscle strain in the opening match of Group G against Germany.

The Portuguese national team Twitter account confirmed the information with the following message:

"Fabio Coentrao won't be able to play in the rest of this World Cup. Hugo Almeida and Rui Patricio will start rehabilitation work"

Coentrao appeared to injure his right hamstring in the 63rd minute of the match when Portugal were already down 3-0.  The defender immediately asked for assistance from the trainers and moments later left the field on a stretcher.

The Portuguese medical report confirmed he has a grade II muscle strain after an MRI was performed.
