Germany football association president, Wolfgang Niersbach, has revealed to Die Welt that the World Cup trophy got damaged during the team's celebration in Berlin on July 15th.

"At one point, a small piece of our World Cup trophy was chipped off," Niersbach revealed. "But do not worry! We have specialists on the case who can fix it. We have investigated persistently who it was that damaged the trophy, but the investigation was concluded without a result."

Fortunately for Germany the trophy was just a replica and not the original that FIFA security personnel took from Maracana stadium for safe keeping after the Final on July 13th.

Niersbach didn't reveal which part of the trophy was damaged or if they found the chipped piece of gold platted bronze, but if you happen to be in Berlin, keep your eyes open in case you see something shiny on the ground.
