Santos Laguna will make history during the next international break, when it travels to Cuba for a friendly game against Cuba’s national team in Havana. The match is scheduled for November 14 at Pedro Marrero Stadium in what will be the first –ever encounter between a Cuban and Mexican team in the Caribbean nation.
This unprecedented international experience for Club Santos and the Orlegi Deportes institution will include Santos’ longtime aviation partner and valued sponsor Aeromexico, as the game will belong to the 2015 edition of the Aeromexico Cup, similar to the game between Santos in Queretaro last year in Houston, where Santos defeated los Gallos Blancos in penalties.
"It really is historical,” said Vice President Alberto Candeo. “To go to Cuba to play a friendly match, given what we have seen in terms of its history, especially recently. We all know the latest political developments (with regard to) opening Cuba to all countries in this regard. We are going to be the first Mexican squad to play in Cuban territory, and the first Mexican team to play a friendly match against the national team. The fact we were able to achieve (this opportunity to play) in Cuba is already part of the image Santos has worldwide: opening doors elsewhere to go play and create beneficial relationships with other countries.
We have always sought out the name and values ??of this club at different levels, in order to continue forging Guerreros Sin Fronteras (Warriors without borders), this is an important part of the vision and mission of the team.”
