During his interview with ESPNFC, Club America defender Ventura Alvarado claims that despite pressure from his parents, his club teammates, and even Miguel Herrera, to represent the Mexican National Team instead of the United States, the 22-year-old did not let himself be persuaded.

"I was indecisive because my parents are Mexican. They wanted me to go with Mexico…all of my teammates in Club America wanted me to wait for the Mexican national team."
-Ventura Alvarado-

Alvarado also shared the chat he had with Miguel Herrera, admitting that he had given him a definitive “No” to any future call-up.

"“When I spoke to the manager (Herrera), he told me he might call me in the future, but I told him “No, I want to represent the United States."
-Ventura ALvarado-

The defender, who made his debut last Wednesday with the Bars & Stripes against Denmark, could opt to change his mind in the near future as long as he doesn't play a single minute with the USMNT in an official match.
