This past week in Group A has been a good one for Croatian players in a personal level, Real Madrid's midfielder Luka Modric is still in top form for los Blancos and is one of the leaders inside the field. Sevilla's best player Ivan Rakitic scored a beautiful goal against Levante but couldn't do much to prevent his squad to lose because of a great night by the Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas. Last but not least, Mexico manager Miguel Herrera made a controversial call-up for FC Porto's center back Diego Reyes despite his lack of activity with his team. Carlos Vela also made an important contribution to Real Sociedad in this past weekend win against Elche in Spain's La Liga by scoring another marvel in his team's 4-0 win.

Chivas did not put in a spectacular performance in Sunday’s season home opener against relegation threaten Chiapas FC, but they did walk away with three points after a 1-0 win off of an Aldo de Nigris goal.

After a horrendous Apertura 2013 season Chivas got a bright start to 2014 with a 1-1 draw in Torreon against powerful Northern side Santos Laguna. And now after bagging their first win of the season the club can now move forward with a bit of confidence and a little less pressure.

The match started out with both sides struggling with a lot of miss passes and no team being able to establish dominance over the other. The visitors took slight control of the match around the 25th minute, but Chivas still answered back with counterattacks through Omar Bravo.

For the second half, the Guadalajara side came out a little more determined in search of the opening goal. A score that would come through Aldo de Nigris who took control of the ball after a series of rebounds following a Carlos Fierro cross from the right side of the field.

The goal seemed to unbalance the visiting side and Chivas pounced on the attack looking for the killer goal. But the home side did not have the finishing quality to double the lead. Chiapas did try to push forward in the late stages of the game but could not manage to find the equalizing goal.

For week three of the Clausura 2014 LIGA Bancomer MX, Chivas will visit Veracruz on Saturday, but will first host local second division side and local Guadalajara rival, Leones Negros, in the Copa MX on Wednesday night.

Chiapas FC meanwhile will host Cruz Azul on Saturday in week three of the league, but will first host second division side Alebrijes in the Copa MX on Wednesday.
