Aurelien Collin was the impact player on this year's 2013 MLS Cup Final. He scored Sporting Kansas City's vital equalizer in the final against Real Salt Lake, somewhat controversially after escaping a second yellow card.

He had no idea of the drama that he was about to befall him the next day though, when he spoke exclusively to Soccerly about another cup, the FIFA World Cup. In particular, along with future opponent Ecuadorian Joao Plata, he was delighted with the composition of Group E which included his France, Plata's Ecuador, Switzerland and Honduras.

Soccerly: First of all, your reaction to the World Cup draw?

Aurelien Collin: I'm very happy for France. They are quite lucky. Hopefully we are going to make it to the next round. I'm a bit worried for the United States. It's a hard group. I hope that my new country friends in the United States are going to go to the next round.

Soccerly: Once you saw Switzerland and Ecuador together, were you thinking "please France, please France, get in that group"?

Aurelien Collin: Yeah, that was quite good. Switzerland is still a good team, but when you compare Switzerland to other teams like Brazil, I think France is very very happy right now and getting prepared to do their best to make it to the next round.

Soccerly: Switzerland were perhaps the weakest team in that pot, Ecuador arguably the weakest team in their pot, you could even say the same of Honduras. Could this have come out any better for you?

Aurelien Collin: No, I think it's a great group for France, and you can say that France made it, but they were very lucky to have made it. France is not in great shape right now either so I think it's a great group for France, and it would be that much harder than if they had a big team like Brazil or Argentina.

Soccerly: You know the French temperament better than anyone here. If France do qualify, will that give them confidence, or will they eventually meet a better team, and reality will take its toll?

Aurelien Collin: I think France right now, it's somewhere where they don't know where they are, so right now with this last game against Ukraine they gained a little confidence, you could see the love from the whole country, so I think France right now needs a lot of confidence, so if they make it to the next round it's going to give us a lot of confidence with the young players and the great, great players we have. With confidence, France can do anything.

Soccerly: How does this French team compare to the great teams of the 90s?

Aurelien Collin: It's different, you know? They're not bad about skill and talent. It's more it's the same, but we had a few like Deschamps, like Zinedine Zidane, like Vieira, like Thierry Henry, that they were making the small details that could make the difference.  So we need players like that, hopefully players are going to come up and do their job as a leader, so we'll see. During the World Cup anything is possible, so we'll see.

Soccerly: How far will France go in the World Cup?

Aurelien Collin: I hope to the final. It's my country. I have confidence in them.

Soccerly: Qui gagnera la coupe de monde?

Aurelien Collin: La France.

Soccerly: Naturellement.  Merci bien.
