Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed Gaston Ramirez and Dejan Lovren needed hospital treatment after suffering injuries in his side's 2-2 draw at Sunderland on Saturday.
Pochettino's team squandered a two-goal lead at the Stadium of Light and to add to the Argentine's frustration he is now sweating on the fitness of two key players.
Uruguay forward Ramirez, the club's £12 million record signing, was caught by a strong challenge by Sunderland defender Wes Brown and moments later Croatia defender Lovren, who had scored Southampton's second goal, was injured while trying to tackle Adam Johnson.
Both players were carried from the pitch and Pochettino admitted the initial signs were not good.
"I am quite disappointed with a point. I think we actually deserved to win the game, but in the end we leave with one point and two injuries," Pochettino said.
"You could see that they were in a lot of pain. I saw them before going to hospital and both of them were in a lot of pain."
