It was a successful debut for Argentine manager Antonio “Turco” Mohamed as the Club America manager. His team defeated Tigres UANL 3-0 in a replay of last season's quarterfinals.

Mohamed did not implement many (if any) changes from what Miguel “Piojo” Herrera had done with the Mexico City side. Tigres had a solid first ten minutes, but once the first goal went in, they never seemed to recover.

Tigres could have had an early penalty when in the third minute Alan Pulido got away from Club America captain Aquivaldo Mosquera. Pulido shrugged off a tug of the shirt and kept his run. Once in the box and right as Pulido was about to shoot on goal Mosquera gave Pulido a shove with his shoulder to the back. The young Tigres striker kept his feet, but was thrown off balance on his shot.

As the visiting Tigres seemed more dangerous in the opening minutes Club America managed to open up the scoring in the 10th minute of play. Colombian born, Mexican naturalized Luis Gabriel Rey hit a shot from outside of the box. The ball was on frame, but took a deflection off of Carlos Salcido who tried to head the ball away. The deflection left goalkeeper Enrique Palos with no chance.

After the goal the host were able to get a hold of the ball and control the game from that point on. In the 30th minute the home side doubled their lead through right wing-back Paul Aguilar. After several rebounds following a corner kick Aguilar received the ball from a Luis Gabriel Rey pass. Aguilar calmly slotted the ball into the net. Referee controversy once again hit as replays showed that Aguilar was in an offside position when he received the pass.

A third controversy came down on the center referee when he called a foul in favor of the visitors just outside of the box. Replays showed that the dispute of the ball was actually inside of the box and that if there was a foul it should have been a penalty kick.

Club America was able to kill off the match four minutes after the restart as young Mexican National Team striker Raul Jimenez got the third of the night. Jimenez was fed the ball on the right side of the field by Paul Aguilar, Jimenez cut the ball and shot on target forcing the goalkeeper to save. But Jimenez was able to slot home his own rebound.

Tigres were never able to mentally recover and did not produce any danger on Club America’s goalkeeper Moises Muñoz. Next up for Club America will be a return to Tijuana for Mohamed has Club America face the Tijuana Xolos; while Tigres will receive the visit from Pachuca.
