Former professional soccer player and current star of ABC's hit show 'The Bachelor', Juan Pablo Galavis, visited the StubHub Center along with his 10 female prospects for a date that was featured on the show on January 20th
. Juninho, Todd Dunivant, and A.J. DeLaGarza, along with a few more LA Galaxy players, stepped on the field with Galavis prior to his outing in order to give the bachelor a few training tips.
The American-born Venezuelan played in Venezuela's pro league throughout his entire career before playing one final season in Miami FC. He then moved on to the entertainment scene as a promoter in Miami for Venezuelan artists that mostly performed in bars and clubs.
After debuting on television in several commercials and as a host of a sports show, the single father of one went on to be a contestant on the reality TV show 'The Bachelorette' but was eventually eliminated. However, he won the hearts of many women across America and eventually became the first Latino to be featured on 'The Bachelor' after 17 previous seasons.
Controversy struck the Venezuelan when he made a homophobic comment, saying that a gay version of 'The Bachelor' would not be a good example for kids to watch on TV and that gay people are "more perverted in a sense". The ABC network apologized for his comments and issued a statement that his views do not express those of the channel; Galavis also apologized to the viewers, saying that he never meant to offend anybody and that his comments were taken out of context due to his lack of proper English.
Despite the homophobic claims that the 32-year-old made, it seems as if most people remain focused on his love for soccer and his charming good looks. Chris Harrison, host of 'The Bachelor', is one of those who shrugged off the controversy surrounding the current Bachelor, simply talking about the Venezuelan's date at the StubHub Center and of his love for the beautiful game.
"The group date this week was all about Juan Pablo’s love of the beautiful game. The entire crew drove down to the LA Galaxy stadium in Carson for an awesome day," said Harrison. "Juan Pablo got to scrimmage with a few of the [LA Galaxy] players for a while before the girls arrived. Not sure if this says something about him, but that’s honestly what he talked about the most when he told me about the date later that week."
